ISSUE

Embarrassment is one thing the shelter can’t protect him from.

ISSUE:

Families with children represent one of the fastest growing sectors of the homeless population in our community. Homeless children lose basic safety and security needs that are necessary for them to thrive and develop successfully. Children are forced from safety to survival, putting them at greater risk for hunger, sickness, anxiety, decreased school performance and even separation from their own families.  SEE STATS

RESULTS:

United Way of the Plains is helping prevent homelessness for many local families through the Help Center for Laid-Off Workers. United Way has spent nearly $1 million dollars in assistance to stabilize families and keep them in their community networks — helping them stay in their own homes, schools and neighborhood support.

United Way also gives hope and opportunity to homeless families, keeping them off the streets by securing federal funds that support transitional and permanent housing programs.  SEE ACTIONS
